Guatemala is a very unique and special place to study abroad. The country is warm, friendly and welcoming and it is one of the most historically significant countries in Central America. Guatemala is bordered by Mexico to the north, Belize to the northeast, and Honduras and El Salvador to the southeast; and Guatemala has both Pacific and Caribbean coasts. The entire region is a utopia of culture, history, and biodiversity. Guatemala is an especially good destination for students who are studying Anthropology, Business, Education, Medicine & Healthcare, Sociology, and Veterinary & Animal Science, among many others.

ANTIGUA
Our campus includes 2 buildings right in the heart of town, just a block and a half from the Central Plaza. Our institute provides a peaceful, tranquil home base in 2 beautifully restored colonial buildings with a central garden, fountain, WiFi, and onsite snack bar. There is also a rooftop terrace with incredible views of the city and lots of study space to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Maximo Nivel takes the academic success of our students very seriously. We evaluate each student’s motivation for the program and their academic history. This helps to ensure a productive and successful cohort experience for everyone in Guatemala.

– At least 18 years of age
– Currently enrolled in an Associates or Bachelor’s degree program
– Academically prepared for university level work
– Proficient in the English language
– Positive mindset; ready to live and study internationally
– Minimum GPA 2.50

UNIVERSITY SPANISH COURSES

Maximo Nivel has a variety of university courses to meet students’ Spanish learning objectives. 100 to 400 level courses are available in small group classes and 1-on-1 private classes. Medical Spanish, Spanish for Business, remedial tutoring, and other Spanish programs for specific purposes are offered on as needed basis.

Our university Spanish courses bring you the organization and curriculum of an accredited, top educational provider while staying true to the small, local appeal of studying in a city like Antigua. The city of Antigua is a special place where you find colonial Spanish ruins mixed with traditional Mayan customs. Outside of class, every day, you use what you learn as you interact with your instructors, host family, and other local Guatemalans.

SERVICE LEARNING

Guatemala is an enduring country and in fact, has the largest economy in Central America. However, the country still suffers with more than half the population living in poverty as it works to improve political organization and social justice.

Guatemalans facing economic disadvantages deal with unequal access to education and healthcare, making poverty, illness, and illiteracy ongoing problems. International students taking part in the service learning program work in various sectors of the community to learn and understand more about positive impact and making a real difference.
